Hobbes

Hobbes (formerly known as Andi) knew he was far too cunning and regal for street life. Never one to miss a meal, Hobbes positioned himself for rescue at a RCR feeding station in North Central Regina in 2012. Knowing a good thing, Hobbes turned on his charm when he met Jen and never again ventured out from the comforts inside their homes.

Vowing never to miss another meal, Hobbes was not above performing for treats and quickly learned that shaking a paw, giving high fives, and especially kitty kisses resulted in treats galore. There was always a cozy blanket or pile of clean laundry to rest his weary head, but Hobbes favorite place to be was snuggled up on Jen. Hobbester the mobster shared Jen with Pedro, but frequently stole Pedro’s socks just to make sure everyone knew who was boss.

A hole has been left in Jen and Pedro’s hearts as Hobbes passed away in July 2023. His goofy antics and loving demeanor will never be forgotten. He was one of a kind.

Leo

Leo (Oct. 2013 – Jan. 13, 2022)

Surrounded by immense love, our beloved Leo peacefully crossed the rainbow bridge on January 13, 2022 after complications due to heart failure.

Leo was adopted from Regina Cat Rescue on March 31, 2017. Affectionately known as “Smol,” he was a bon vivant who loved spooning in the big bed, waking up mom in the middle of the night for kisses, being brushed with the fancy human hairbrush, snacking on McDonald’s french fries and high-quality cured meats, patrolling the backyard in the summer (supervised, of course!) and lounging in front of the fireplace on a cold winter’s night.

It was often difficult to believe Leo was a cat. He was small in size but big in personality and took on many human qualities. Leo was also incredibly attached to his mom Shanna. Wherever she was, so was Leo. He nursed her back to health, helped her through the most difficult situations and never missed the opportunity to offer up his rough little tongue for licks on her eyelids and cheeks. His breath smelled awful, but that didn’t matter. His love was unending, and she relished every minute of it!

When Leo wasn’t doting on mom, he was busy being a mischievous brat. Nail trims were a nightmare, and nobody told Leo what to do – he ruled the roost! Zoomies were a daily occurrence, Christmas presents didn’t stand a chance and ripping apart the upholstery was commonplace. So too were swats to our ankles.

It wasn’t until 2021 that his health took a turn for the worse. He was diagnosed with renal failure in the spring, followed by heart failure and an arrhythmia in the summer. After some incredible vet care, changes to his diet and more than a few pills, Leo’s fabulous life was back on track and showed no signs of slowing down.

Unfortunately, things took an unexpected and tragic turn. Letting go felt like our hearts were being ripped from our chests. Leo was the light of his mom’s life and was simply the greatest little guy anyone could have hoped for. We’re forever grateful to RCR for bringing this caring, chatty and always-busy ginger moggy into our lives.

Leo will be forever loved and always missed.

My little “Claire Bear”, she was tiny but fierce, she came to me from a rough life in a rough neighbourhood.  Picked up as a stray who had to fend for herself and the countless litters she had on the mean streets of North Central.  She certainly did know how to take care of herself and quickly let my resident cats know that while she was tiny, she was mighty and they wouldn’t be pushing her around.

It took a long time for her to believe that she was not going to be tossed out on the street again and that she could relax and learn to trust people.  And it was so worth the wait when she finally gave in and started to trust, she had the cutest little chirp when she wanted your attention and some ear scratches and I will sorely miss her slight weight on my chest as I drift off to sleep at night.

She was fiercely independent and wore a perpetual scowl but those of us who knew her knew it was all for show, she was one of the sweetest cats you would ever meet.

Run wild and pain free my sweet little “Claire Bear”, I hope you are enjoying endless sunshine and are getting reacquainted with your clowder.

Spock

Spock 2009 - 2017

I first got Spock once I finished university and got my first stable real job. From the minute he came into my life he was my best friend. I loved all of his quirky things: Running up and down our bodies under the bed covers when we were trying to sleep, awaking to him randomly licking our noses, drinking from the tap, going completely crazy whenever we cooked salmon, thinking he was hiding from us in obvious spots, to randomly hiding and pawing at us through a hole in a box :)

I really wish we would have more time with you. You had the most gentle soul I’ve ever seen. You left us too early but fought as hard as you could against your battle with your illness. You were very patient and trusting with the vets as they tried to help you.  You helped us through a lot of hard times with your unconditional love and we will never forget you.

Love,

Steve, Amanda and Warf

Snook

This is Snook. I was lucky enough to be her human for 12 years. She comforted me in times of sadness and was always ready to sit in my lap and purr. She was the queen of the house and ruled over the humans until we got another cat and later, a puppy. Her favourite toys weren't mice or feathers on sticks but my hair elastics which I had to hide or she would steal them. She was a great huntress and no bug was safe in our house.
I miss her dearly, still.

April 27, 2013 - August 8, 2015

In memory of my cat, Benni (previously Mr. Noodles from RCR) who was taken away from us too soon.  Benni was a beautiful black cat, who was super playful, sweet and loving.  She was my best friend, who never left my side.  I miss her sweet cuddles and kisses every day.  She also loved her big dog sister, a Rottweiler mix named Molly, and they would play and cuddle each other everyday.  Benni and Molly grew up together, as they were only a few months apart, so they developed a very strong bond.  Benni, we miss you eveyday and we hope you are finally pain free, playing your heart out and eating all the cheese you want.  Love you so much and you will always hold a special place in our hearts.  Until we meet again . . . . . . .

Kiano Pettigrew

In loving memory of
Kiano Pettigrew
Sept 29/96 - May 10/15

Kiano was our 18 year old Seal Point Siamese who provided us with years of unconditional love, laughter & affection. For those unfamiliar with this breed, they often don't really care to pay too much attention to people that aren't in their immediate family. Kiano often enjoyed hissing & swiping at anyone who tried to pet him. But when he was alone in the company of his immediate family, Kiano loved his rubs & was a very affectionate boy. He loved his Temptations treats, his ahi tuna, turkey tickles & was a Daddy's boy. He was a great traveller putting on tons of miles driving back & forth to AZ. Kiano was taught how to meow 'hello' & would often play the 'hello game' meowing hello after you would say hello to him & played this game at all times of the day & night. Kiano dealt with hyperthyroidism for several years & took his meds twice a day everyday like a trooper.
Kiano is survived by his Mommy & Daddy & sister Mystic. Kiano joins his brother Piglet & sister Maddie in Heaven. Our little rub monster will be missed terribly. Until we meet again. We love you Kiano.
