Jackson

Jackson came into Regina Cat Rescues care in 2022 at approximately 7 years of age, and was adopted into his forever loving home in January of 2023, and taking his final steps as he crossed over the rainbow bridge on May 19, 2025. Jackson came to Regina Cat Rescue after being abandoned by his owners, and was found with ear mites that were left too long and resulted in his loss of hearing.

When Donna and family first adopted Jackson, it took time for them to gain his trust but little by little they did. At first he barely tolerated a few moments of pets and chin scratches before walking away, and tolerated the curiosity of his cat siblings. However, he gradually grew to not just accept but welcome pets and kisses. He did not let his hearing loss affect him, as he found ways to communicate his needs - notifying them of his hunger by headbutting them and leading them to the kitchen. If he felt ignored, he would sit in front of the TV; and they quickly learned how vocal he is, as he sang the song of his people at night, when he looked outside, or when he caught his reflection in the bathroom mirror. He welcomed cuddles with a quiet purr, and made little chirping meows to his family. He loved camping with his family and found all sorts of soft spots to nap, even if he barely tolerated the trip there. He just loved to watch nature.

Just before Christmas, his family noticed him failing and the vet was unable to find anything wrong. His family noticed it took more effort for him to jump to his favorite places and he was losing weight. Then in May, they went on what ended up his last family camping trip on Mother's Day weekend. On May 19th, Jackson was on his favorite spot, including laying on his blanket he brought from his foster home, perch looking outside and had his usual late night snack. As his family went to say their good night's, they found Jackson was gone and resting peacefully on his favorite spot. Donna and family notified Regina Cat Rescue of their sad news, and shared through their grief "Jackson can hear again and jump as high as he wants."

Thank you Donna and family for loving Jackson and giving him the best final years of his life.
