Adoption

The goal of our adoption policy is for each cat and adopter to have a smooth transition in a safe environment and ensures that the adoption is the right fit for all parties involved.

Regina Cat Rescue (RCR) will:

  • Sterilize all cats and kittens (12 weeks of age or older) before adoption can proceed;

  • adopt only to people who have been appropriately screened by a member of the Rescue Team and who agree to sign and honour the RCR “Adoption Contract.”

  • collect the following non-refundable adoption fees:

    • $150 for vaccinated, sterilized adult cats (1-9 years old)

    • $100 for vaccinated, sterilized older cats (10 years or older)

    • $175 for vaccinated, sterilized cats and kittens under 1 year

    • $250 for vaccinated, sterilized adult cats in bonded pairs

    • $300 for vaccinated, sterilized kittens in bonded pairs

    • $50 for “almost perfect” cats that have been in extended foster care

  • perform follow-up calls to check on the adopted cat’s adjustment to its new home; and

  • appropriately manage situations where the adoption contract is not honoured, where the Foster or call back volunteer has concerns with the adoption, where the new owner advises that the adopted cat is lost or injured, and where the new owner wishes to return the adopted cat to RCR.

A designated member of the Rescue Team will:

  • enter all applicable data on the cat, the adopter, and the associated data as required to be entered in RCR’s database (records are kept in accordance with RCR’s Privacy Policy); and

  • provide instructions to the new owner how to transfer microchip and/or tattoo ownership as outlined in the adoption paperwork.

    A copy of the Spay-Neuter record will be given to the new owner at the time of the adoption. The original record is the property of RCR.

    Contracts, veterinary records, and other information for individual cats will be entered into the RCR database post-adoption.

All cats are deemed adopted after sterilization, including those will medical needs. RCR will provide, to the best of our knowledge, full details of anything adopters should know about the cat(s).
