Foster Homes

RCR will grant Foster Parent status only to those people who have completed a Regina Cat Rescue volunteer application and have been satisfactorily screened by a member of the Pet Rescue Team. To maintain Foster Parent status, you agree to comply with RCR processes and principles relevant to foster homes and services provided by RCR.

  • A designated member of the Rescue Team will keep in close contact with the Foster Home to provide support, including text, email, phone calls and personal visits (when possible) to ensure that the Foster Home environment is optimal for both the Foster Parent, as well as any cats under the foster’s care.

  • RCR will do the utmost to reduce the risk of introducing disease to the Foster Parent's pets, through ensuring they are appropriately vaccinated, treated for ear mites, dewormed, and tested when advised by the veterinarian on staff for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). (See RCR FIV policy for more details.)

  • RCR Rescue volunteers may be appropriately trained to administer the needed vaccinations.

  • RCR provides Foster Homes with supplies to care for cat(s) in their care. (See Food Supplies policy). These supplies are for RCR foster cats only. These supplies consist of hard and soft food, and litter, and may include other items. Supply requests are sent to a member of the Rescue Team. If a Foster Home chooses to provide their own supplies, they can request a Gift-in-Kind receipt for the following year (See GIK policy). Foster Homes are not reimbursed for food or litter.

  • RCR Communications and Marketing volunteers will post adoptable cats to the website and on social media within a reasonable time frame to assist with the facilitation of adoption. (See below for further information).

Foster Home Accountabilities

  • Foster Parents agree to remain in contact with a member of the Rescue Team, sharing relevant information regarding the cat(s) in their care in a timely manner.

  • Foster Parents will ensure their contact information is kept up to date with a member of the Rescue Team.

  • A cat is deemed “adoptable” once sterilized. Foster Parents will provide a member of the Rescue Team photographs and key details of the foster cat’s personality within 7 days after the foster cat was sterilized. (See adoption policy).

    • Medical cats will be posted for adoption with a write up that clearly defines any medical issues.

  • Foster Parents accept responsibility for potential damage to their home and belongings created by the foster cat(s) in their care.

  • Foster Parents will notify a member of the Rescue Team if they suspect illness, injury, or other medical issues that are concerning. A member of the Rescue Team will be responsible for assessing the situation and providing the appropriate next steps, including veterinary authorization, with appointment and date, if applicable.

  • Foster Parents are responsible for transporting their foster cat(s) to and from medical appointments, including to be vaccinated by a member of the Rescue Team. If they are unable to do so, they are responsible for providing appropriate notice to a member of the Rescue Team, who will make necessary arrangements.

  • Foster Parents may be asked to participate in adoption events or other promotional events, for example, cat yoga, at the discretion of an RCR Lead.
