PFA FUNDRAISER AT MONGOLIE GRILL

PFA is holding a fundraiser at the Mongolie Grill Restaurant on Thursday, September 17 to raise much needed funds to continue our rescue operations into the winter. Tickets are $20. You can create your own stir-fry from a wide range of choices including vegetarian. Beverages are included and we are offering door prizes as well. Please contact us at saskpeopleforanimals@gmail.com for more information or to order tickets.

SPECIAL FOSTER HOMES NEEDED FOR SPECIAL-NEEDS CATS

Throughout the summer, PFA has maintained record high levels of tame, adoptable cats and kittens in foster care. We are fortunate to have a network of kind and dedicated foster homes that help care for these cats until forever homes are found. However, sometimes our rescue activities bring us cats with special needs that present challenges in finding foster care for them.

Right now, we are seeking foster homes for Malcolm, a lovely and affectionate plush grey boy who is great with people but needs to be an "only" cat in a home and Sunshine, an adorable but timid black female who needs a quiet, longer-term foster spot with someone who is willing to be patient and work with a timid cat. Sunshine also has a broken leg that is in a cast so she needs some extra TLC and will need to make regular vet visits for the next while (PFA is paying for her veterinary care and can provide drivers if necessary to help with the vet visits).

Both cats are in very temporary foster care and both need new foster or adoptive homes within the next few weeks; Sunshine needs a spot by September 21 or will have to be boarded at a vet clinic. Please let us know if you can help at saskpeopleforanimals@gmail.com. You can view additional information about these cats in the PFA Cat-a-logue at www.people4animals.ca or by following these links: http://www.people4animals.ca/index.php?docID=234 (Sunshine) http://www.people4animals.ca/index.php?docID=90 (Malcolm)

BENEFITS OF FERAL COLONIES (submitted by Amy Snider, PFA Feral Team member)

As PFA becomes increasingly busy with our Trap/Neuter/Release initiative to help control cat over-population in Regina, we find we are running out of resources to take on and manage additional colonies. However, we are regularly notified by Regina residents concerned about feral cats in their neighbourhoods. Luckily, many of these people are willing to maintain their own colonies with advice and assistance from PFA, because they recognize that these colonies can be beneficial. Over the summer, we partnered with several enterprising citizens who provided funds and manpower to establish feeding stations and trap the cats for sterilization so the size of the colony remains stable.

To learn more about the benefits of having a feral cat colony in your neighbourhood, please check out this article in the Communications section on our website.

PREGNANCY AND CATS (submitted by Debbie Sentes, PFA Education Coordinator)

Countless cats are surrendered to animals shelter every year due to their owner's pregnancy or the addition of a new baby in the home. Unfortunately, there are a number of myths surrounding cats and pregnancy that lead people to think they need to get rid of their cats or risk harm to the baby. However, this is a situation that can be managed easily with a bit of information and planning. Please click here to learn more about how to balance having a cat and having a baby.
