RCR says goodbye to Burt

Regina Cat Rescue (RCR) volunteers are sad to share that Burt, a feral cat in RCR's care, passed away this weekend. Burt was found by a volunteer near his shelter on Saturday. He had been mauled to death by a dog.

Burt prowls the territory near his colony

Burt was about nine years old at the time of his death. He - and 13 other cats - were found struggling to survive the winter back in 2008. At that time, RCR volunteers established a feeding station and shelter to help the kitties thrive in Regina's harsh climate, and each cat was trapped, neutered and returned. Dedicated volunteers continue to visit the colony daily to provide food and water and to check for new, sick or injured cats.

Burt was a shy, timid cat who had become braver since his brother Dash succumbed to illness last April. Burt enjoyed sitting in the feeding station in hopes that the feeders would give him cat treats while he waited for them to fill the food and water bowls. Sometimes, he would even allow them to give him a quick pet on the head. While we're very sad that we won't see Burt at his regular haunts anymore, we are comforted knowing he has joined his brother Dash, and that he will experience no more struggles or cold winters. Rest in peace sweet guy, you will be missed by all the feeders.
