Newborn kittens found in dumpster

On Sunday evening a Regina Cat Rescue (RCR) volunteer received the message that we all fear in the rescue world. Four newborn kittens were found in a dumpster. Given their condition it seems most likely they were thrown away very shortly after they were born.

Quickly, they were scooped up and delivered into the care of RCR’s neonatal program lead where she worked to get the babies warm, stabilized and then fed.

The kittens will have a long road ahead of them as they grow up without their mother. But our dedicated neonatal foster care providers will do their best to help them thrive every step along the way.

These four kittens are the lucky ones who are now safe and will be given the best chance at life. But the timing is difficult for RCR as we face the reality that many major sources of our revenue are cancelled or postponed indefinitely due to COVID-19. Each cat or kitten we rescue requires de-worming, vaccinations, sterilization, tattoos and/or microchips and other veterinary care if illness or health issues arise.

We know this is a tough time for many people, but if you’re able, we’re asking you to donate this #GivingTuesday at canadahelps.org/en/giv3/99336 to help support these kittens and countless others.
